Power elite won't tolerate dissent

You can find the unelected "Power Elite" at every level of society down to municipal government, and the monied class behind the scenes that is used to getting its way.  All powers work to control, marginalize and render the public mute, except for their own army of proxy combatants.

Since all power springs from the consent of the people, the people have the ability to change things - if they have the will to do so.

An alliance of upper level bureaucrats and cultural elites, the Clerisy, for for all their concerns about inequality, have thrived, unlike most Americans, in recent years. They also enjoy strong relations with the power structure in Washington, Silicon Valley, Hollywood and Wall Street.
