Old Glory Disgraced

Several public institutions around town are flying American flags that are in neglected and extremely poor condition.  I assume having a flagpole and displaying a flag denotes pride and love of country.  But when a body - personal or public - displays a faded, dirty, torn, frayed and twisted flag, the message is just the opposite.  There is no pride - it is a disgrace.

Worn flags should be removed or replaced immediately.  Better to have an empty flagpole than one that displays neglect and lack of reverence.  One can buy a 4'x6' nylon American flag for $56.90 or a 5'x8' flag for $89.90 (online retail pricing) from Elmer's Flag and Banner.  No excuses.

If you see a public flag being flown in poor condition, please let the agency know to remove or replace it.

The flag above is in the Lower Plaza portion of Millennium Plaza Park near the Lakeshore Motel.
