Environmental Book Group. The group met this week to discuss the outstanding title Countdown: Our Last Best Hope for a Future on Earth? by Alan Weisman. The group has agreed that this is the best book on this topic that we have read. After 6 years or so reading and discussing all manner of nonfiction and fiction books related to the environment, the group has expanded its scope to include all nonfiction books beginning in March. Members will discuss any nonfiction book he/she may have read over the past month. The group will meet next month, February 26 where we will discuss the works of William Stafford as part of Lake Oswego Reads. The group is open to new members. For more information about the group and extensive reading lists, please visit our book group webpage at: http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/environmental‐book‐group‐0

There are several categories of environmental topics listed on the page and a cornucopia of book titles to peruse within them. There's just one thing though - there doesn't seem to be a variety of opinions, ideology and scientific thought in this collection. It doesn't take a leap of the imagination to see where current political ideas come from. It's as if the issue of climate change was carved in stone and there was no new scientific thought to add to the subject. It might be nice to attend the meetings to get a feel for how this group thinks and feels about the subjects they tackle. * * * * * * * *
