Meet me in St. Louis

Clang, clang, clang went the trolley
Ding, ding, ding went the bell
Zing, zing, zing went my heartstrings
From the moment I saw it I fell ... Off of it.  There's no way this thing can be called ADA compliant!

Chug, chug, chug went the motor
Bump, bump, bump went the brake
Thump, thump, thump went my heartstrings
When I rode it I could feel the car shake ...  Uh oh!  Who has a plastic bag I can use?  What, no plastic?

Buzz, buzz, buzz went the buzzer
Plop, plop, plop went the wheels
Stop, stop, stop went my heartstrings
The trolley's future is sealed ...

In St. Louis.

I loved the old streetcar (that was another name for trolleys in the olden days) parked up a at Council Crest.  After the city paved over the trolley tracks, the old Rosé City bus line used overhead electric lines for a time.  It was nice when those wires went away and one could see the sky again without all the junk getting in the way.  The streetcars and electrified buses were great for their time, but modern busses could go anywhere without the expense and visual blight of the electric lines.  After the sale of two trolley cars to St. Louis, it sounds like the Willamete Shore Trolley will have the only surviving vintage trolleys in the metro area.  There's one in Astoria too.

Trimet on verge of sending vintage holiday trolleys to St. Louis.

By Joseph Rose, Oregonian, 12/6/2013.

TriMet is on the verge of sending cars 511 and 512 -- known for their original woodwork, iconic design and old-time conductors -- to St. Louis for daily use in a revitalized trolley district in that city.
In a Friday announcement headlined"Clang, clang, clang went the trolley,"

Oregon's largest transit agency said the cars could become part of a new heritage streetcar project in St. Louis called the Loop Trolley. The board will consider transferring them to St. Louis on Wednesday.
