A Tribute to Nelson Mandella

This is from a friend, Jim Bolland, who works every day to make a difference in the world.

Tonight’s announcement of Nelson Mandela’s passing reminds me that his inspiration reaches all the way down to the community work that we do here in Lake Oswego. Nelson Mandela taught me the true meaning of the politics of inclusion. When political leaders who possess wealth and power speak of the politics of inclusion it is inspirational. When political leaders who have survived oppression and imprisonment speak of the politics of inclusion it is transformational.

One of my favorite quotes from Mandela, one of the most eminently quotable and yet humblest of great leaders;

“I’m not a saint unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying.”

Jim Bolland
