SW Corridor Meeting on Monday

Southwest Corridor Plan

As more people move to southwest Portland and southeast Washington County, the region needs to plan for new ways for them to get around. 

Instead of using the steering committee to whittle down what kind of transit project should be sent into the EIS process, Metro staffers are suggesting a new course – a more comprehensive look at the Southwest Corridor, focused on outcomes instead of picking a line for a transit project.

The Southwest Corridor Plan steering committee will meet Monday to begin hearing what staff from Metro and other project partners found in six months of study on key questions regarding high capacity transit options and related roadway, bicycle and pedestrian improvements in the corridor.

The statement above suggests that the norm is to have a steering committee do all the 

decision-making rather than ask all those pesky taxpayer-citizens what they want.  
Regardless of what "new" course Metro is suggesting, Tigard now requires a vote before 
high capacity transit can be even planned for, much less implemented in their city without a 
vote has something to do with it. The final Plan will have to meet with Tigard citizens' approval before the plan ever gets beyond (or to) the final draft stage.  This is what the power of the public vote can do!  

What happens with the Southwest Corridor a Plan will impact Lake Oswego whether the transit system comes into the city or not.  What are the Lake Oswego City Council's views on the SW Corridor Plan and the Tigard Triangle Plan?  Should Lake Oswego citizens get to vote on things that will have a major impact on the physical look and feel of our city, it's affordability, and our quality of life  - like High-Capacity Transit and Urban Renewal?
